Don Vincenzo Gran Selezione 2009
AVAILABLE IN 750ML BOTTLES
Don VincEnzo is the supreme expression of Chianti Classico with its 100% of Sangiovese. Don VincEnzo evolved as a dream of the producer to balance the power of the Sangiovese grape and the refined elegance of Chianti Classico.
It is made from the best selection of a single vineyard. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak barriques. After aging, 18-24 months in barrique and 6 months in French oak barrels. The wine is then bottled and left for 12 months to age in the bottle before release.
It shows a very bright character with a dark-ruby colour. Its elegant and soft bouquet has plenty of spices and notes of cacao, tobacco and toasted coffee on the finish. Its elegant taste is supported by low acidity and well balanced tannins and a long, long finish. As for its complexity, it expresses this best if you drink it alone but it is able to give you special sensations if served with well prepared red meat.
The Gran Selezione classification was only introduced in Feb 2014 with only 30 odd wines initially qualifying for this "Super" Classification. This is one of them and it must surely be one of the best Chianti Classico wines most of us will ever enjoy. Very complex, powerful, drinking beautifully already but absolutely will cellar for another 10 years.

"Don Vincenzo is the estate’s top Chianti Classico, and a single vineyard wine. The 2009 is first rate, albeit in a richer style than the ‘basic’ Riserva—and built for aging. It is intensely flavored, full bodied, complex in flavor, crisp and well balanced, with a lightly tannic finish. In aroma/flavor, it tastes of plum, cassis, red licorice, toast, cedar, and new oak. Needs aging. 98% Sangiovese. Aged 18 in French oak barrels, 70% new. Organically grown grapes. Panzone in Chianti."
