Wine Selection:

PICARDY - Pemberton, WA

Hand picked grapes, hand crafted wines.

All wines bearing the Picardy label are made entirely from fruit grown on the Picardy vineyard and are vintaged and bottled by the Pannell Family (well known for establishing Moss Wood and also co-pioneering Margaret River as a wine region). The red wines are noted for their vibrant colours and intensity of fine-grained tannins.  The Chardonnay is produced in a delicate, refined style in keeping with the great wines of Burgundy. These wines all have pronounced structure and intense flavour. They are made to be drinkable in their youth and yet will age beautifully for many years.  Independent reviews are consistently high for all wines.  With respect to the Chardonnay and Pinot wines, Bill has brought to Pemberton superior clones as used in prized Grand Cru Burgundy vineyards.  They also import their own specially prepared French oak barrels.  These latter aspects further add to the unique and exciting experience Picardy offer wine enthusiasts.

ABOUT Pemberton: Being higher in altitude and influenced by the southern ocean breezes,  Pemberton is much cooler than Margaret River.  This explains why it is so ideal for Burgundy style wines made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.  Yet paradoxically, it can produce brilliant Northern Rhone style and St Emillion Bordeax style wines too,  as the Pemberton region is prone to long Indian summers that allow the Shiraz and Cabernet Merlot varieties extra time to achieve full ripeness.

Picardy Chardonnay 2008 - Pemberton, WA

A refreshing, delicate, complex Chardonnay.  "...mouth watering Chablis style.  The palate is tight and fine, crisp and clean.  The fruit is soft and recalls cashew and melon with understated oak.  Tangy acidity, lovely line and length.  All Chardonnay should be this refreshing."  Huon Hooke 24 Nov 2009

Picardy Sauvignon Blanc 2008 - Pemberton, WA

After doing a number of trial batches, the Pannells now release their first Sauvignon Blanc from their own Picardy vineyards.  It is more like a Sancere than anything from NZ and as such exhibits welcome complexity and length.  It is a superb white wine that can be consumed young or safely aged for a few years.

Picardy Pinot Noir 2007- Pemberton, WA
A very elegant, seductive style.  Lush, suave, raspberry and mild strawberry lifted with minerals. Silky smooth. The light colour does not prepare you for the intense and long flavours that follow.  Seamless integration.  A great year!

Picardy Shiraz 2007 - Pemberton, WA

A portion of this wine is harvested at 12.5 Baume for savoury restraint and structure, but most is picked a degree later for a richer, mouth-filling fruit component.  The result is a Rhone-like Shiraz.  Spice with savoury notes, cherry and minerals.   The nose is lifted with a floral note.  As with all Picardy wines, elegant and totally food friendly.  "... Mineral, interesting scents ... Lovely balance. Really sophisticated! " JANCIS ROBINSON

Picardy Merlot Cabernet Cab Franc 2007 - Pemberton, WA
This is a wine in the style of the Merlot dominant St Emilion/Pomerol region of Bordeaux - elegant fruit with excellent structure.  Medium bodied, perfectly balanced with delightful mouth feel, and a complex finish.   The 2007 vintage is probably the best yet.  Halliday 94 points.
