Bus-sola, vahl-polly-chella “…a depth and intensity of sheer fruit…”
Tommaso Bussola is one of the great producers of Valpolicella/Ripasso/Amarone. The leading writer on Italian wines Nicolas Belfrage says Bussola’s wines display “…a depth and intensity of sheer fruit difficult to find anywhere in the world of wine…”
On the slopes of the Valpolicella Classico zone at Negrar the Bussola family simply do all the basic things with typical Veneto intensity! It’s just great vineyard work and clean and meticulous winemaking. The magic comes from the vineyards which are naturally low yielding – no need for a green harvest to assist concentration. There are two ranges; the tiny quantities of the ‘TB’ range, interestingly raved over by seemingly contrary critics like Belfrage and Parker, these are wines of fabled concentration. The standard range (formerly known as ‘BG’) are quite brilliant in their own right and offer the clean, silky depths of many producers ‘reserve’ wines.
Antonio Galloni (eRobert Parker Italian wine guru) writes Oct 2008 – “...another superb set of wines from Tommaso Bussola... 2004 Amarones are phenomenal... Still, these are among the most unique wines being made anywhere.” ... and on the 2004 Amarone Vigneto Alto: “... I found it awefully hard to put my glass down. It is extremely rare to encounter an Amarone that balances depth with clarity to this degree of profoundness. Needless to say this wine is not to be missed. ... It is one of the [most] breathtaking Amarones I have ever tasted.”
It has a ruby red colour and a delicate and distinctive fruity bouquet. Dry with a pleasant bitterness, soft, velvety and harmonious flavour. Complement all types of food. 12% Alc/Vol.
Tommaso Bussola Ripasso 'Ca del Laito' 2004 - Veneto, Italy
The newly fermented and racked Valpolicella is run over the lees/skins of last years Amarone and with a brief refermentation comes the infusing of some of Amarones richly herbal, chocolate, raisins and dried cherry characters into the round and juicy maraschino cherry fruit of the Valpolicella. This combo is fantastic and creates a richer, full bodied variation on the regular Valpolicella Classico.

Tommaso Bussola TB Amarone 2004 - Veneto, Italy
Very Limited! From Antonio Galloni (eRobert Parker) "Bussola’s 2004 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico TB possesses remarkable harmony and poise. At first the wine is rather brooding, but with air it turns more delicate, revealing layers of tar, licorice, smoke, toasted oak and black fruits. The wine offers notable clarity and finessed tannins that frame the fruit from start to finish. Although the new oak needs some bottle age to recede a bit, this is clearly a remarkable example of modern-style Amarone at its finest."
"The 2000 Amarone Classico Vigneto Alto TB reveals another level of intensity altogether, with waves of dark cherries, cocoa and licorice that coat the palate with notable persistence. It offers superb length and terrific expansiveness ... Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015." Robert Parker. Complex , layered, multi-dimensional, power delivered with class. Very long and perfectly balanced. A unique wine from the very special vineyard, Vigneto Alto. 6-PACK
Tommaso Bussola TB Recioto 2003 - Veneto, Italy
SOLD OUT For any serious wine lover, your wine-life is incomplete until you have enjoyed one of these babies. According to Gamberro Rosso it 'walks away' with the top 3 glass rating year after year. With respect to the 2003 - "The top-scoring wine in the range, as ever, the Recioto, which ideally reflects the personality of the producer, exhuberantly unfurling an array of sensations from rasins to chocolate, sweet spices and minerally hints. The palate seems to represent Tommaso's meeker side with huge sweetness that finds phenominal support from the healthily boistrous tannins. Three glasses once again went to the Bussola winery for this exciting and very stylish Recioto." 6-PACK
