Wine Selection:

Azienda Monaci - Lecce, Puglia, Italy

"Severino Garofano, one of the most important players in Puglian winemaking in the last 40 years ...” GAMBERO ROSSO 2008

The Garofano family; celebrated oenologist Severino, with Renata and Stefano, run this fascinating and deeply historical property and retain a considerable amount of its mixed-agricultural heritage complementary to the vines. Small-scale but traditional aspects like grain, olive oil and cheese production reflect a more complete agricultural mix the Garofano’s believe is true balance.

The wines of Monaci concentrate on the traditional red varieties of their Copertino production zone; Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera, Montepulciano and Primitivo, mostly from lower-yielding vines of some age. The wines are authentic, quite distinctive, bold and rich in character and very good value – especially as they are released with more age than usual.

We are delighted to offer the highly acclaimed Copertino Rosso 'Eloquenzia'.

A Monaci Negroamaro combines the richness of earthy, raisin and spicy fruit characters and that smooth, savoury drinkability with extra age on release. ‘Eloquenzia’ is nicely mellow and complete for the table.
