Bow-shay … made exclusively from their family vineyards - a rare pleasure these days.
NEW Sep 2009. Champagne’s incredible popularity has necessitated most champagne be made on a gigantic industrial scale in order to meet demand. While it is a technical marvel at the quality that can result even when production is by the tens of millions of litres, there is no doubt about the superiority of the handmade, “family scale” product. Over the last 90 years and three generations, the Bauchet family have steadily accumulated some of the finest vineyards for Chardonnay (mostly from Cotes des Blancs) and Pinot Noir (mostly from Montagne de Reims). In total, these small parcels add up to only 30 hectares. Big enough to offer some economies of scale, (and great value to us) but small enough to manage superior quality and character. The range of vineyard parcels have provided Bauchet blending options just as those the big Champagne Houses have in order to achieve exceptional complexity with finesse. Bachet is a “Proprietaire Recoltant”, meaning only grapes from their own vineyards are used for their wine. They do not buy in. In this way they are able to totally control quality from soil, through the vine and grape, to the winery and ultimately to the bottle. Of the three non-vintage cuvee made by Bauchet, we have imported the top one – the Reserve Brut. Want even more depth and complexity? Then we have the vintage Millesime 2000. Both contain some Grand Cru material with the balance all from Premier Cru vineyards. Treat yourself and your customers to handmade, top tier Champagne for little more than the cost of big brand “factory” products. |
