Reserve Syrah 2009/2010
Wine commentators and wine enthusiasts regularly rate this Syrah as one of New Zealand's best. Having originally planted these vines almost 30 years ago, the 2009 clearly shows vine age and experience count. It is always limited so be sure to get some.

>> "Bright, rich and intensely fruity Syrah with plum, berry, black pepper, subtle floral and spicy flavours. Complex, appealing wine with a silky texture and lengthy, determined finish; excellent potential."

>> "The 2009 vintage (5*) was estate-grown in Mere Road and at Roy’s Hill and matured for 18 months in French oak casks (30 per cent new). Deeply coloured, it is finely fragrant, with plum, pepper and floral notes. A very graceful and supple wine, it is lithe, finely poised and youthful, with pure plum, black-pepper and liquorice flavours that build to a tight-knit, lastingfinish. Best drinking 2013+."
-Michael Cooper for 2009 Vintage-
>> "Lovely wine with a haunting perfume of ripe berry and floral characters. They follow through onto the palate with the addition of anise, licorice and spicy oak characters. Elegant and moderately powerful Syrah with a lengthy finish."

>> "Fruit from the Mere Road and Roy’s Hill sites, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine the aged in French oak for at least 18 months. Moderately deep, darkish ruby-red in colour with purple hues, this has a tight, intense and concentrated, youthful bouquet of black fruits, black pepper and earthy aromas along with an intriguing mineral and liquorice amalgam and some resiny oak notes. Medium-full bodied, there are attractively lush, but restrained, ripe and sweet fruit flavours of black berry fruits, pepper and spices all with good depth, sitting with a supple, softly textured palate. The gentleness belies the structure, which along with balanced acidity, will allow this wine to develop greater interest and complexity over the next 8-12+ years. Serve with grilled and roasted meat dishes. 18.0+/20 May 2011."
