Reserve Syrah 2013

2013 was a superb season with good flowering, fruit set and an excellent ripening period. After early frosts, spring weather was settled. Sunny and summer was long, hot and dry with very low rainfall. These conditions produced fruit with lots of flavor and good ripeness.
Aroma: It has bright, aromatic fruits and bubblegum notes coming through: dark, spicy and rich. It has enticing silky texture and wonderful balance. It is indeed charming.
Palate: A very concentrated, dense Syrah with big fruit flavors of blackberry, blackcurrant and plum. It also has savory flavors of black olive, leather and the licorice characteristic of Stonecroft Syrahs. It is juicy, generous suave and sophisticated. The wine also has a good tannic backbone. A wine which deserves to be cellared.

Harvest: Hand harvested
Vinification: Fermented in open-top stainless steel fermenters. It is wild ferment. It is hand plunged two times daily. Post fermentation by soaking for two to three weeks. Matured in French oak barrels for approximately 18 months.

>> Certified organic, the 2013 vintage (5*) was harvested from estate-grown vine, including the region's first syrah plantings in 1984. Matured in French oak casks, it is densely coloured, powerful and youthful, with deep plum and spice flavours, savoury, nutty notes adding complexity, excellent harmony and a lasting, spicy finish. A very classy young red, it should flourish with cellaring.
