2013 was a superb season with good flowering, fruit set, and an excellent ripening period.  After early frosts, spring weather was settled.  Sunny and summer were long, hot, and dry with very low rainfall.  These conditions produced fruit with lots of flavour and good ripeness.

Varietal: Syrah

Aroma:  It has dense black fruit aromas with savory notes of game and olive and hints of spice.

Palate:  This Syrah has rich black fruit flavours, blackberry, boysenberry, and black cherry.  It has only a hint of white pepper with subtle oak treatment adding a touch of vanilla.

Bottle Closure: Cork

Harvest: Hand harvested

Vinification:  It was fermented in open-top stainless steel fermenters. It was wild ferment. It was hand plunged two times daily.  Post fermentation by soaking for two to three weeks followed by maturation in barrel.

Alcohol: 13%

Review:
>>  "Another excellent wine from the 2013 vintage. This seriously good syrah from the second label of this pioneering estate is tightly knit and deeply fruited with notes of juicy black plum, leather and fragrant sweet spice and black pepper."

>> "The vivid dark fruit is immediately lovable, with flavours akin to dark plum, olive, spice, and a lick of pepper to finish. The tannins are ripe and will loosen up with time."
-John Saker (www.stuff.co.nz)-
>> Wonderful aromas; the wine shows stunning fruit purity together with subtle savoury complexity. Notes of dark and purple fruit, cedar, mixed spice and floral lead to a succulent palate that offers excellent fruit concentration and weight, brilliantly supported by fleshy mouthfeel and an abundance of polished tannins. At its best: 2016 to 2025. Certified organic.

>> "Medium full red colour, faint purple tint. Some development here, but the bouquet is very complex and inviting, deliciously spicy and fragrant, high-toned white peppery, lifted. An ethereal style of syrah, fine and tremendously intense, aromatic and very long in the farewell. Great Wine!  Huon Hooke glowingly reviewed the 2010 Serine Syrah, and we feel 2013 is just as good!"
